What We Learned from Taranto About Lean Manufacturing

Home | News | What We Learned from Taranto About Lean Manufacturing

Recently, members of our Management Team traveled to Co. Armagh to visit the experts at Taranto Ltd, a precast concrete manufacturer.

The goal? To move beyond the textbooks and witness firsthand how a high-performing facility integrates efficiency into every single hour of the workday.

What Does “Lean” Actually Mean?

At its core, lean manufacturing processes are designed to maximise customer value while minimising waste. It isn’t just about working faster, it’s about working smarter.

By observing Taranto’s operations, we saw how “lean” functions as a philosophy that touches every part of a business – from the factory floor to the back office.

The 3 Pillars of Lean We’re Bringing Home

Our visit was a fact-finding mission to help us kickstart the next stage of our own operational journey. Here is what we are looking to embed deeper into our own culture:

  1. Eliminating non-value waste: Identifying where time or materials are being lost without adding value to the final result.
  2. Streamlining procedures: Simplifying complex workflows to reduce friction and “bottlenecks” in production.
  3. Continuous improvement: Empowering every team member to suggest small changes that lead to massive day-to-day efficiencies.

Moving from Theory to Reality

It’s easy to read about efficiency, but seeing it applied to a heavy industry like concrete manufacturing made it click for our team.

We were able to relate Taranto’s challenges and successes directly to our own operations.

This visit was about seeing what ‘lean’ looks like when it’s fully up and running. We’re excited to bring these insights back to help our own team thrive.

A Big Thank You

A massive thank you to the team at Taranto for their hospitality. Being so open with their processes, insights, and experiences has given us the spark we need to refine our own path forward.

We’re ready to take these learnings and build a more efficient, waste-conscious, and value-driven business for our clients.
