Whether you are looking to create a new bedroom, office or playroom, we are here to help with your loft conversion.
Loft conversions are very common in the UK but they do require careful planning & design, which is where we come in!
I think I want a loft conversion – how can Robinsons help?
A loft conversion can be a fantastic way to expand your living space by creating an extra bedroom, TV lounge, office or playroom.
Robinsons Architecture & Design provide a full service, guiding you through every step of the process. Our team like to do an initial consultation in order to learn about your vision and what the space will be used for, your budget, and your timeframe. We can then chat through everything you’ll need to consider, from planning permissions to drawings, and provide you with a quotation for our services as well as what costs you can expect when it comes to completing your exciting new project.
If you haven’t considered what you’ll use your conversion for yet, it is useful to think about this before putting any big plans into motion. What about an extra bedroom with an en-suite bathroom, or a dedicated playroom for your growing children. Loft conversions are also popular for creating calm study or workspaces, out the way of the hustle and bustle of the rest of your home. It’s good to think about this beforehand as you will need to consider things like headroom and plumbing if you hope to include the likes of a bath or shower.
Is my loft a useable space?
The big upside to a loft conversion is that it tends to be much less disruptive than adding a major extension to an existing living space. Most lofts are suitable for conversion, however, it is worth doing a quick assessment two double-check yours is! There are three main things to check:
- Internal Height: the top of your ceiling joist to underneath the ridgeboard in your apex needs to measure 2500mm to be suitable to convert.
- Roof Pitch: the higher the pitch angle of your roof, the higher the cenrtal ehad height will be. Consider if this is high enough for who will be using your space and what they’ll be using it for.
- Footprint: as a rule of thumb, minimally you would like 5500mm side – side (inclusive of any chimneys) and 7500mm front – back.
Will my loft conversion add value?
A loft conversion can add up to 20% to the value of your property, however many families choose to convert their loft as a means of creating more space to avoid the stress, cost and hassle of moving to a larger house. As always, if you are looking to convert your attic with the sole intention of selling your home, we would suggest speaking to a local estate agent first to find out if this would indeed add value to your property based on your location.
