We’re proud to share that Robinsons has been shortlisted in the Livestock category of the RIDBA Building Awards 2025.
This recognition celebrates our contribution to the new livestock building at Borderway Mart in Carlisle, a flagship development for Harrison & Hetherington.
Collaborating on a Landmark Project
Working as the steelwork subcontractor alongside lead contractor Thomas Armstrong Group, we helped deliver a transformative space for one of the UK’s busiest livestock markets. From the outset, our team focused on improving functionality, airflow, and animal welfare through practical and durable design.
The £1 million development features a 2,000-square-metre double-span roof that supports better air circulation, increased daylight, and more space for livestock and market staff. These improvements ensure that Borderway Mart can continue handling high volumes of cattle and sheep efficiently and safely.
Supporting Growth and the Farming Community
Each week, Borderway sees thousands of animals pass through its auction rings, contributing to more than £250 million in annual livestock trade. It also hosts national events like the Borderway Agri Expo and UK Dairy Expo, making it a vital hub for the UK farming community.
To meet rising demand, the new building offers a higher and wider structure, improving both animal flow and the overall experience for buyers and sellers. As a result, the mart is now better equipped for the future of British livestock trading.
Delivered with Precision and Care
Construction began in November 2024, and by April 2025, we had completed the project on time and within budget. Throughout the build, we maintained full operational access to the market, thanks to the coordination and professionalism of all involved.
We’re proud of the role we played in delivering this vital upgrade for Harrison & Hetherington. This project showcases what’s possible through close collaboration, clear communication, and shared commitment to quality.
Celebrating Industry Excellence
The RIDBA Building Awards recognise innovation and craftsmanship across agricultural and industrial construction. This year’s competition attracted a record number of entries, making the shortlist especially meaningful.
Winners will be announced on Friday 19th September at the Concorde Conference Centre in Manchester, hosted by comedian Lucy Porter. We look forward to celebrating with our peers and acknowledging the impressive work taking place across our industry.
