The team at Robinsons have used their specialist skills in manufacturing and construction to become one of the go-to contractors working on Distillery Projects throughout the UK.

Specialising in the Industry, they have been involved in several complicated builds where their knowledge and expertise has helped companies within the industry expand their operations for the future.

Working with companies such as our extensive work with Bruichladdich, Rémy Cointreau; a bonded warehouse, roof-raising project and visitor centre for family-owned Kilchoman, founded in 2005 by Anthony Wills; a bonded warehouse for the Isle of Raasay Distillery, the first legal distillery on the island and a host of other companies within the sector, Robinsons have certainly become accustomed to the technical requirements for working within this sector; either as sub-contractor providing the structural steelwork, cladding and erecting part of the project to managing the full build as the main contractor.

Robinsons Scotland were contracted by Robertson Central West to provide 360 tonnes of structural steelwork and 1150 concrete panels as cladding for Bruichladdich Distillery on Islay. Bruichladdich were looking to create a steel framed bonded warehouse that was within a reasonable distance to their current operations on the Island.

The companies philosophies were to keep all their operations on Islay to ensure that the island could remain prosperous. Focusing on their key principals, they make their single malt by hand, using traditional techniques and maturing the whisky on the island. 

The panels were made by Robinsons partner CWP. Specialists in creating high-quality concrete products, the 140mm panels were made to exposure performance class, perfect for coastal projects and they had a 2-hour fire rating for excellent performance in its industrial use.

Robinsons worked in collaboration with CWP to deliver in excess of 120 loads to the island relying heavily upon the logistics teams carefully planning each journey to ensure they were gaining optimal load capacity and delivering on time.

CWP also worked with Bruichladdich to create a bespoke design for several substation structures and poured panels with notched out grooves to create the structure that would suit the client’s needs.

Working on the island was no mean feat, the inclement weather conditions, think gusty winds and horizontal rain and the coastal location definitely made the build a challenging project, however, Robinsons experienced teams were able to complete the build successfully.
